I've had some of the most fun of my life experimenting in the kitchen, so I was delighted when Shulie of Food Wanderings invited me to join a series of macaron guest posts on her blog. But this wasn't just about playing around and these weren't to be just any macarons. You see, Shulie's son is allergic to all tree nuts, including almonds. Being the loving mother she is of course, Shulie wanted to share the incredible deliciousness that is French macarons with her son and enlisted a number of bloggers for this mission. After some trial and error, what came out of my kitchen were these tasty Sunflower Seed Coconut Macarons with Pumpkin Filling. Please join me over at Food Wanderings to read my guest post and to check out all the incredible nut-free macaron posts there! If you want to head straight to the printable recipe, please click here. Thanks for letting me contribute to your delightful blog, Shulie!

I've never had a Macaron in my life. This recipe really got me thinking that I need to try to make some. I love pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteXialou,
ReplyDeleteI can't spell the abc's of Macarons. Never ate one too. By their looks, they are such dainty sweet little things. And, you are a Macaron queen for sure!
Had I been in the D.C area, would've ordered by now :)
These are just beautiful! And since I am on a macaron quest, and determined to get the perfect macaron, I love learning about other unique ways to make a macaron. The addition of sunflower seeds, and coconut sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteTake care, Terra
The combination of flavors sound intriguing and delicious at the same time. Anything with pumpkin I love so I know I will love this, too. Beautiful photographs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique flavor and I love it. Oh especially the pumpkin filling - so yummy! As always I love the food photography!
ReplyDeleteooo What did it taste like? What a great idea to use seeds as opposed to nuts. I've tried it with peanuts, but seeds, that must have been a challenge. Sounds like home run!!! Well done my friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks! You guys are so fast =).
ReplyDeleteElle marie - it tasted pretty much like the ingredients hehe. Sunflower seeds with a hint of coconut and some of the chewiness from the coarser coconut bits. Not quite traditional for macs but still yummy :)
Beautiful! Great job.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Rosa
Wow! These look so delicious! I would love to try some:)
ReplyDeleteThat looks as good as it's made with the original almond meal ... crisp crust and chewy inside. So perfect! This is such a good alternative for nut-allergy folks. My nephew is going to be so pleased! He's never had a macaron due to his allergies and have always only imagined what they were like. Thanks so much!

ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful post! it especially holds dear to me, as my one-year old daughter is allergic to ALL nuts! we had to sneak-eat my july 4th macarons - i turned her stroller the other way and gave her a handful of goldfish crackers, while the rest of us turned our backs to her and gobbled up the macarons so she coudln't see - so sad!
